A busy weekend in the combat sports world saw Bellator MMA hosting back-to-back shows in Honolulu, Hawaii. The second of those shows, Bellator 279, was set to arrive on Saturday, with a women’s featherweight title fight atop the card.
That fight was a rematch between Cris Cyborg and Arlene Blenrcowe. Cyborg had won the first outing via submission, the first of her mixed martial arts career. Blencowe had won two bouts since that time, but was still a sizable underdog in the fight.
Also set for Saturday, an interim bantamweight title fight to kick off the promotion’s 135lb grand prix quarterfinals. With Serio Pettis out due to injury, former champ Juan Archuleta was set to face Raufeon Stots with an interim belt on the line. In the other quarterfinal on the night, another former champ, Kyoji Horiguchi, was paired up with Patchy Mix.
