The former World’s Strongest Man, and popular KSW mainstay Mariusz Pudzianowski is set to headline KSW 70 next month.
Promotion officials announced the news via press release this week, revealing Puzianowski’s opponent to be former KSW middleweight champion Michal Materla. KSW 70 is set to take place on May 28, 2022 at the Atlas Arena in Lodz, Poland.
Pudzianowski (16-7, 1NC), now 45 years old, is currently riding one of the best streaks of his career, having won four straight bouts. Most recently, “Pudzian” stopped the massive “Bombardier” (Serigne Ousmane Dia) in a super heavyweight contest last October. On his current streak, he’s stopped all four of his opponents by KO/TKO.
The former strongman started his fighting career in 2009 after winning the World’s Strongest Man tournament five times from 2002 to 2008. Save for a single fight outside the promotion in 2010, the Polish heavyweight has spent his entire career competing for KSW.
Materla (31-8) lost his middleweight title to Mamed Khalidov in 2015, but would go on to pick up wins over the likes of Rousimar Phalares, Paulo Thiago, Martin Zawada, Damian Janikowski and others. While he’ll be moving up two weight classes to fight Pudzianowski, he has fought at a 195lb catchweight, and at openweight, previously in his career.
Additional fights are expected to be announced for the KSW 70 card in the coming weeks.
