Two years after their five round classic, former UFC strawweight champions Zhang Weili and Joanna Jedrzejczyk are being targeted for a rematch at UFC 275.
One of the UFC’s modern classics is on-deck for UFC 275. ESPN reports that a fight between former strawweight champions Joanna Jedrzejczyk and Zhang Weili will be part of UFC 275 on June 11. The fight is a rematch of their 2020 bout that is widely regarded as the greatest women’s fight in UFC history and one of the best fights in the history of the sport overall.
Zhang Weili (21-3) is looking to get back in the win-column following back-to-back losses to current champion Rose Namajunas in 2021. “Magnum” lost the title in stunning fashion last April to Namajunas and later came up short in the immediate rematch last November. Prior to the bout, Zhang had put together a 21 fight win-streak that included winning the title against Jessica Andrade and the title defense against Jedrzejczyk.
Jedrzejczyk (16-4) will be competing for the first time since the 2020 classic. A former champion who previously recorded five title defenses from 2015 to 2017, Jedrzejczyk has enjoyed several opportunities as a television personality and businesswoman in her native Poland in recent years as her fighting career has been less active than in years past. That said, she has insisted in recent months that she is eager to compete again and make fighting a priority as she negotiates for better opportunities for herself inside the Octagon.
The event is scheduled to take place at the Singapore Indoor Stadium and will be headlined by the light heavyweight championship bout between champion Glover Teixeira and top contender Jiri Prochazka. A flyweight championship bout between former Jedrzejczyk foe Valentina Shevchenko and Taila Santos is also scheduled for the card.
