A highly anticipated women’s featherweight fight between ex-UFC title challenger Cat Zingano and former Invicta FC champ Pam Sorenson is off next week’s Bellator 276 card.
Promotion officials confirmed the news Monday, following an initial report by MMA Mania.
An undisclosed injury suffered by Zingano has been cited as the culprit. Per an updated bout sheet, Sorenson is off the card altogether.
Bellator MMA turned heads by booking Zingano opposite Sorenson, when most felt a title shot against Cris Cyborg would be next for “Alpha” Cat. Conflicting reasons were cited for the booking, with the Cyborg suggesting Zingano wanted another fight before facing the champ. Zingano meanwhile aired concerns about Cyborg’s aversion to drug testing.
“Alpha” Cat Zingano (12-4) has won both of her fights under the Bellator banner to date. She fought her way to a unanimous decision win over Gabby Holloway in 2020, then followed that up with a submission victory against Olivia Parker last year.
Sorenson (9-4) saw a two-fight win streak snapped in her last outing when she lost a unanimous decision against Arlene Blencowe. In 2019, prior to joining Bellator, Sorenson captured the vacant Invicta FC featherweight title against Kaitlyn Young.
Bellator 276 takes place Friday, March 11, 2022 at the Family Arena in St. Louis, MO. The event has been billed as a double header, with featherweights Mads Burnell and Adam Borics atop the card, alongside a light heavyweight match-up between Phil Davis and Julius Anglickas.
