A fight between two of the UFC’s standout middleweights is expected to join the festivities at UFC 273 as a fight between Dricus du Plessis and Chris Curtis is being targeted for April 9. MMA Fighting was first to report the news.
Du Plessis (16-2) is on a four fight win-streak going into his first bout of 2022. After an impressive streak that saw him claim welterweight gold in KSW, “Stillknocks” entered the UFC in 2020 where he has competed as a middleweight and notched victories over Markus Perez and Trevin Giles. He was scheduled a bout with Andre Muniz in December before an injury forced him to withdraw from the bout.
Curtis (28-8) is on a seven fight win-streak that has seen him secure back-to-back UFC finishes as the underdog as he stopped Phil Hawes and Brendan Allen. A PFL and CES veteran, “The Action Man” has recorded a finish in six of his past seven fights and will be looking for the biggest victory of his career.
The event is scheduled to feature a championship double-header with featherweight title holder Alexander Volkanovski taking on “The Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung and the rematch between Aljamain Sterling and Petr Yan to unify the bantamweight titles.
