A bout between two of the UFC’s top ten ranked flyweights is being finalized as Viviane Araujo is expected to fight Andrea Lee on May 14.
Two of the UFC’s ranked flyweights will be stepping into the cage this spring as a deal is getting done for Andrea Lee to take on Viviane Araujo. MMAJunkie was first to report the news.
Araujo (10-3) is looking to bounce back from a loss to top ranked contender Katlyn Chookagian last May. “Vivi” kicked off her MMA career with a strong 6-1 start before entering the UFC in 2019. Since then, she has recorded victories over Alexis Davis, Montana De La Rosa, Roxanne Modafferi, and Talita Bernardo. She was set to face Mexican prospect Alexa Grasso this past Saturday at UFC 270 before an injury forced her to withdraw from the bout.
Lee (13-5) is looking to continue her resurgence after notching impressive finishes over Antonina Shevchenko and Cynthia Calvillo in 2021. After entering the UFC with a 3-0 start, “KGB” went through a 0-3 skid that saw her come up short in two competitive split decisions before her recent performances propelled her back up the rankings. Her last fight was the bout with Calvillo in November.
The May 14 card is expected to feature also feature a flyweight bout between former bantamweight champion Miesha Tate and Lauren Murphy. No location for the event has been reported at this time.
