Bellator MMA’s final event of 2021 brought with it one of the most hotly anticipated bantamweight fights of the year.
Sergio Pettis had seen his jump from the UFC to Bellator pay off earlier this year when he captured the 135lb title against Juan Archuleta. As much as Pettis was the undisputed champion, however, there was an asterisk next to his reign. That was due to the fact that Japanese star Kyoji Horiguchi had never lost the title, instead relinquishing the belt due to an ACL tear back in 2019.
Once holder of both the RIZIN and Bellator championships simultaneously, Horiguchi had already returned and reclaimed gold in the Japanese promotion. On the western side of things, Friday would see if he could do the same in Bellator.
Also on Friday’s main card, a small Canadian contingent. In the co-main event, B.C. native Jeremy Kennedy was looking to bounce back from his first loss in the promotion against Emmanuel Sanchez. “El Matador” was hoping to get back in the win column after losing his last two fights.
Veteran Josh Hill, meanwhile, was up against Jared Scoggins, who had missed weight for the bantamweight fight, resulting in a 140lb catchweight.
Full results from Friday’s Bellator 272 card, at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, CT, can be found below. The preliminary card live stream can be found above; where available, the main card can be viewed below.
