Canadian Jeremy Kennedy will look to bounce back from a loss to Adam Borics when he faces Emmanuel Sanchez at Bellator 272. Only, he doesn’t really see it as a bounce back fight.
Instead, Kennedy (16-3, 1NC) called his bout with Borics a “very competitive” fight, and he believes he’s still the better fighter.
That said, he recognizes he lost that night. “The fact of the matter is, he got the win, he’s ranked high, I’m not, but I think that just shows what Bellator sees in me,” Kennedy said during this week’s Bellator 272 media day. “First of all just giving me the Borics fight first, I think he was ranked third at the time, and then back-to-back fighting Emmanuel Sanchez, who’s ranked fourth. I think they know I belong at the top of the division, and I compete with these guys and I fully plan on coming through and running through Sanchez and seeing what’s next.”
Despite that confidence, the former UFC and PFL athlete doesn’t want to get ahead of himself. “I can’t really think too far ahead to rankings and where it’s going to put me, but I just plan on getting the job done and being in the best possible position.”
There’s been one big change between fights, Kennedy explained this week. While in the past, the featherweight was going back and forth between British Columbia, Canada and Las Vegas, now, he’s settled in to his new home in the fight capital — which he took possession of just days ahead of his last fight.
“For the last seven months, I’ve been living in the same atmosphere I do my fight camps. So that’s my whole lifestyle now, is every day training, which is it back in BC, but it’s not the same.” In Vegas, said Kennedy, “I have world class training partners, I’ve been helping guys through camps constantly through the summer. Countless guys, countless training camps.”
With names like Julian Erosa and even Islam Makhachev involved, “all around, my game’s just gotten so much better now,” he added.
Jeremy Kennedy faces Emmanuel Sanchez at Bellator 272 this Friday, December 3 at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, CT. More coverage of the card can be found below.
