Former women’s bantamweight champion Miesha Tate returns Saturday at UFC Vegas 43 in her second fight, and first headlining slot, since returning from retirement earlier this year.
Tate, with name value and championship pedigree, could be on the fast track to a rematch with Amanda Nunes should she get past Brazil’s Ketlen Vieira. One of the division’s new wave of contenders, Vieira, at 30, was looking to both find consistency — and to capture a signature win against one of the biggest stars in female fighting.
Tate vs. Vieira had originally been booked for October, only for Tate to contract COVID-19, forcing the fight to be pushed back. Saturday, they’ll go head-to-head in a fight that could be a turning point in the division’s future.
