Las Vegas, NV — UFC Vegas 43’s Davey Grant wants a trilogy fight with Marlon Vera down the line.
Grant (13-5) is coming off a Fight of the Night with Vera at UFC on ESPN: The Korean Zombie vs. Ige. The bantamweight pair now each hold a win over the other. Grant defeated Vera back in 2016 via unanimous decision in his second UFC fight.
With the rivalry being 1-1, a trilogy could be an option in the future. Grant is all for it.
“Oh yeah, without a doubt. You know, both fights were pretty good; both fights were exciting. Obviously, one went his way, one went my way,” Grant told Cageside Press at the UFC Vegas 43 media day on Wednesday. “Look at the hype he has now. He just beat Frankie Edgar, who is an absolute legend of the sport.”
With Vera being ranked No. 11 at the moment, a trilogy doesn’t make much sense, and Grant knows it, but he says there is always later. “He is ranked so high now, so if I could use the fact that we’re 1-1 to get a higher-ranked fight, then definitely. But also for my own personal confidence because he beat me the last time. Do you know what I mean? I want to go get that back. The trilogy would be great. Obviously, I don’t think I’ve earned or deserved it just yet. It wouldn’t make sense for him. It would be great on my part, but I’m not stupid. I’ve got to go get a couple of good wins and try and work my way up,” Grant said.
All of this trilogy talk is fun, but Grant has to get past Adrian Yanez first on Saturday.
