Fabian Edwards has stepped up on just under two week’s notice to face Charlie Ward at the upcoming Bellator 270.
Edwards (9-2) will be filling in for Norbert Novenyi Jr., who announced that he was out of the bout due to a torn ACL.
“Probably not the most ideal birthday post but unfortunately I will have to pull out from my fight against Charlie Ward as I have torn my ACL during a wrestling exchange,” Novenyi wrote on social media. “I tried to carry on and push through it however it hasn’t gotten better.”
News of the switch was confirmed by Bellator MMA officials on Tuesday.
Ward (9-4) has won his last two bouts, and will be a home town favorite in the fight, with Bellator 270 going down in Dublin, Ireland’s 3Arena.
Edwards, meanwhile, has lost two straight. The brother of UFC contender Leon Edwards started his career a perfect 9-0, putting some lofty expectations on the British middleweight.
Bellator 270 takes place on November 5, 2021, airing on Showtime in the U.S. The full card as reported to date is below.
