UFC flyweight Cynthia Calvillo will be stepping in for Jessica Eye as she takes on Andrea Lee at UFC Vegas 42 on November 13.
UFC flyweight Cynthia Calvillo will be stepping up to keep a flyweight bout intact. MMA Junkie reports that Calvillo will be stepping in for Jessica Eye against Andrea Lee on November 13. Eye took to social media on Monday night to state that she had been hospitalized and would have to drop out of the bout.
Calvillo (9-3-1) is looking to stop her descent down the rankings after dropping back-to-back bouts. After besting Eye in her flyweight debut last June, Calvillo dropped fights to Katlyn Chookagian and most recently Jessica Andrade in September. The bout with Lee comes at a critical juncture as Calvillo had been on the cusp of a title shot last October when she was scheduled to face future title challenger Lauren Murphy before COVID-19 withdrew her from the bout.
Lee (12-5) will be looking to build on her career best victory after submitting Antonina Shevchenko in May. The victory snapped a three fight skid that saw her lose competitive bouts to Roxanne Modafferi and the aforementioned Murphy. A former LFA champion, “KGB” quickly rose to prominence in the UFC after putting together a three fight win-streak against Ashlee Evans-Smith, Veronica Macedo, and Montana De La Rosa. The fight with Calvillo will be her second bout of 2021.
The event is scheduled to be headlined by a featherweight bout between former champion Max Holloway and top contender Yair Rodriguez. The event is set to take place at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.
