The UFC has added a welterweight banger to its upcoming December 4 Fight Night event.
Early Tuesday (or late Monday, depending where you’re reading this from), promotion officials announced via social media that Australia’s Jake Matthews (17-5) would face Jeremiah Wells (9-2-1) at the event. The December 5 card is heavy on Australian/New Zealand talent, with Jimmy Crute and Brad Riddell also slotted in on the card.
Matthews had a three-fight winning streak snapped in his last outing, when he fell to Sean Brady at UFC 259 in March. Prior to that, “The Celtic Kid” had picked up wins over Rostem Akman, Emil Weber Meek, and Diego Sanchez.
Appearing on The Ultimate Fighter: Nations — Canada vs. Australia in 2013, Matthews joined the promotion the following year, and has posted a 10-5 record inside the octagon.
Wells, a former CFFC champion, is coming off a win in his promotional debut that saw him finish Warlley Alves via TKO in the second round. Overall, Wells sits on a three fight win streak.
The UFC’s December 4 event is expected to take place at the Apex in Las Vegas, though no broadcast plan, location, or venue has officially been announced. The card as reported to date breaks down as follows:
Rob Font vs. Jose Aldo
Chris Gruetzemacher vs. Claudio Puelles

Brendan Allen vs. Brad Tavares
