The UFC has released four more fighters.
MMA Fighting was the first to report the news that the promotion has released Roosevelt Roberts, Anderson dos Santos, Drako Rodriguez, and Jamey Simmons.
Roberts (10-3-1) was most recently on the receiving end of one of the best knockouts of 2021 when Ignacio Bahamondes stopped him. That was his third loss in a row after going 4-1 to start his UFC career.
Roosevelt Roberts issued a statement on his official Instagram regarding his release.
“I can’t lie…… shit been crazy. But I’mma get myself outta this like I have done every other fucked up situation I put myself in. I will be back,” Roberts wrote.
Dos Santos (21-9) picked up his only UFC win last year in 2020 when he submitted Martin Day. The Brazilian went 1-3 in the promotion and was most recently knocked out by Miles Johns at UFC 265.
Rodriguez (7-3) won his UFC contract on season four of Dana White’s Contender Series by knocking out Mana Martinez; however, he went 0-2 in the UFC. At UFC 265, he lost a unanimous decision to Vince Morales and was knocked out in his UFC debut.
Simmons (7-4) also went winless in the UFC, going 0-2. In his UFC debut, he was finished by Giga Chikadze, and then most recently, at UFC 265, he was submitted by Johnny Munoz Jr.
Already on this year’s Contender Series, UFC President Dana White has awarded 15 contracts, through just three episodes. Meaning the “fall cleaning” could continue, as roster spots will need to be freed up.
