Dustin Jacoby showed off his striking at UFC Vegas 35, knocking out the durable Darren Stewart in the very first round.
Dustin Jacoby vs. Darren Stewart had all the makings of a banger at UFC Vegas 35 — though it featured two fighters on very different trajectories.
The light heavyweight showdown had Dustin Jacoby unbeaten in his last five, with only a draw last time out against Ion Cutelaba, marring an otherwise perfect record in that span. Meanwhile, Darren “The Dentist” Stewart was 0-2, with one no contest, in his last three trips to the octagon — leaving the Brit badly in need of a win.
Both fighters took the center of the octagon, and 15 seconds into the fight, Stewart shot for a takedown and landed it. Jacoby worked up to his feet and got up. Stewart landed another takedown, but he let Jacoby up after some control. Jacoby then put Stewart against the cage, 90 seconds into the fight. Three minutes left in the round, and both fighters met in the middle and exchanged punches. Jacoby landed a heavy 1-2 that rocked Stewart. Jacoby started unleashing combos and a few knees that landed. Stewart was firing back but wasn’t landing anything, which caused the referee to jump in and halt the fight.

Since coming back to the UFC, Jacoby has been on a roll, winning all of his fights, minus a draw in his last fight. Stewart has dropped three straight and might be out of a job.
