Bellator 264 took place Friday, August 13 at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, CT. The show featured Gegard Mousasi putting his middleweight title on the line against John Salter, not to mention the return to action of former welterweight champ Andrey Koreshkov.
Salter’s rise to title contention in Bellator, following an early-career stint in the UFC, has been a testament to the Alabama native’s tenacity. Top-notch grappling and a workman-esque approach to the sport has seen Salter, 35, notch eight wins under the Bellator MMA banner. His only loss in the promotion came against former champ Rafael Lovato Jr., whose own career ended undefeated.
Mousasi, meanwhile, was making the first title defense of his second middleweight reign in Bellator. One of the most well-traveled fighters in MMA history, Mousasi needed no re-introduction to fans — he simply needed to get past Salter to open up the possibility of bigger fights down the road, including one with UFC signee Yoel Romero.
