Uncasville, CT — Flyweight title challenger Denise Kielholtz came and spoke with the media following her title bout with champion Juliana Velasquez Friday at Bellator 262, disappointed in the outcome but still holding her head high.
Many believe Kielholtz may have done enough to be called champion, but regardless of whom you believe won it was a razor close battle between two warriors. Kielholtz believes the rematch is what is next (though Velasquez seems to have other plans).
“Disappointed in myself,” Kielholtz told the media. “I just go back to Holland and work harder. Maybe a rematch in Amsterdam. I think I’d done enough, I thought it was really close. I thought the judges would put it my way. They saw it differently. I came to fight, that is what people want to see. For sure more motivated to come back stronger. I think the next fight will be more fun, it all depends on Bellator.”
Kielholtz showed great maturity following the split decision loss, despite being disappointed in herself after a very impressive performance that many argue she had won.
“I’ll go back to work,” the Kickboxing champion stated. “With team Schreiber, my head coach Bob Schreiber, we’re gonna work harder, come back harder. I still have a lot to learn, for me I am disappointed; I disappointed him. I know he has so much belief in me, one day I’ll prove that we continue with your plan, to come out of cage as champion.”
As Coach Schreiber sat behind the media he screamed “not at all” in response to the supposed disappointment.
