A pair of ranked UFC light heavyweights will look to get back into the win column in October.
ESPN was first to report the news that No. 14 ranked light heavyweight Jimmy Crute will fight No. 15 Jamahal Hill. A source close to the situation later confirmed the fight to Cageside Press.
Crute (12-2) suffered his second career loss at UFC 261 in April. He would lose via doctor stoppage when he suffered foot drop from a leg kick from Anthony Smith. The loss would snap his two-fight win streak in which he submitted Michał Oleksiejczuk and then knocked out Modestas Bukauskas last year on ‘Fight Island.’
Hill (8-1-1) suffered his first career loss last month at UFC 263. In the first round of his fight with Paul Craig, he had his elbow dislocated and ended up losing via TKO. The loss halted Hill’s momentum in which he picked up last year. He picked up all three of his UFC wins last year in 2020.
The October 2 UFC event is expected to be headlined by Johnny Walker and Thiago Santos, but nothing is official.
The fight card so far looks like this:
- Johnny Walker vs. Thiago Santos
- Joe Solecki vs. Jared Gordon
- Bethe Correia vs. Karol Rosa
- Diego Ferreira vs. Grant Dawson
- Jamahal Hill vs. Jimmy Crute
- Sean Soriano vs. Fernando Padilla
- Douglas Silva de Andrade vs. Gaetano Pirrello
- Kevin Holland vs. Kyle Daukaus
