After another action packed weekend of UFC fights, the Nevada State Athletic Comission under Bob Bennett handed down the medical suspensions. When all was said and done, fifteen fighters from UFC Vegas 28 face some amount of time away with three looking at extended layoffs.
Most notable for the long suspensions was two fighters who will need a trip to the ophthalmologist. Both Ilir Latifi and Alan Patrick will face 180 day layoffs for injuries sustained to their eyes. Patrick’s injury came as a result of an accidental eye poke from the hands of Mason Jones. That poke caused a stop to the fight and rendered it a no contest. Latifi was not the victim of an illegal blow, but rather took a knuckle from Tanner Boser to the eye at UFC Vegas 28. Both can have their suspensions shortened with proper clearance.
The other fighter looking at some time of the shelf is Sean Woodson. Despite putting together a complete performance and scoring a split decision win over Youssef Zalal, Woodson was the one worse for the wear. He appears to have injured both his left hand and his left knee over the course of the fight. He’ll knee an MRI on the knee and an x-ray on the hand before he can be cleared again. Like the two aforementioned fighters, he too can be cleared early by the appropriate medical professional.
