A top light-heavyweight prospect in Anton Turkalj is getting his opportunity of a UFC contract on the Contender Series this fall. Sources have confirmed to Cageside Press that Turkalj is lined up to face Kaloyan Kolev on October 12.
The young 24-year-old Turkalj trains out of Göteborg, Sweden. Turkalj is 7-0 as a pro with a 100% finish rate. He competed in an exhibition grappling match two years ago and lost to points by UFC fighter Alexander Gustafsson.
Turkalj has made a name for himself since he signed with Brave CF not even a year ago. He’s gone 3-0 for the promotion with a key win over Ibo Aslan. In his last fight, he made headlines with a spinning backfist knockout in only thirteen seconds
One of the hottest prospects at 205 in Turkalj is looking to avoid getting derailed by Bulgarian Kaloyan Kolev. Along with MMA, Kolev has a background in Judo and is a multi-time medalist at the national level in Bulgaria.
Like many fighters, Kolev didn’t fight at all in 2020. He at least had a good 2019 knocking off three opponents. Kolev is a Spartacus Fighting Championship titleholder. He’s 10-0 with eight finishes.
The light heavyweight clash between Anton Turkalj and Kaloyan Kolev is the latest addition to a growing roster of fights on this year’s edition of Dana White’s Contender Series.
