A pair of women’s strawweights will look to return to the win column in July, when Cheyanne Buys throws down with Gloria de Paula.
The bout will see Buys (5-2) and de Paula (5-2) both looking for their first win inside the octagon. A source close to the situation confirmed the bout to Cageside Press, following an initial report by MMA Fighting.
Buys, who won her want into the UFC on Dana White’s Contender Series last year, made her octagon debut in March, losing a unanimous decision to short-notice replacement Montserrat Ruiz. The fight turned out to be a heated one, with allegations of spitting being lodged against Ruiz — though Buys later retracted those claims.
The loss snapped a four-fight winning streak for “The Warrior Princess,” whose husband J.P. is also a UFC fighter.
de Paula also competed in March, where she lost her promotional debut to former Invicta FC atomweight champ Jinh Yu Frey. Like Buys, de Paula won her way into the organization on the Contender Series last year.
The UFC’s July 31 card does not yet have an official location, venue, or broadcast plan set. However, a date at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, NV is likely. The following bouts have been reported for the event:
Chris Gruetzemacher vs. Rafa Garcia
Bryan Barberena vs. Jason Witt
Jinh Yu Frey vs. Istela Nunes
Melsik Baghdasaryan vs. Collin Anglin
Philip Rowe vs. Orion Cosce
Cheyanne Buys vs. Gloria de Paula
