Bellator MMA returned on Friday with Bellator 258, featuring a bantamweight title fight and the debut of Anthony Johnson. But not, as it were, Yoel Romero.
Romero did not clear his medicals, putting a halt to the much-anticipated match-up with Johnson. Instead, “Rumble” will take on short-notice replacement Jose Augusto as part of the light heavyweight grand prix, with the winner meeting champ Vadim Nemkov in the semi-finals.
In the aforementioned title fight, Juan Archuleta makes the first defense of his 135lb belt when he takes on ex-UFC standout Sergio Pettis. Archuleta won the belt against Patchy Mix, after a stint at 145lbs that saw him bounced from the featherweight grand prix.
