A long-rumored bantamweight bout has come to fruition, as top UFC 135lb prospects Randy Costa and Adrian Yanez will collide on July 24.
Multiple sources familiar with the situation confirmed the bout to Cageside Press, speaking on condition of anonymity. MMA Junkie first reported the news on Tuesday.
Costa (6-1) is 1-2 inside the octagon to date, and has won his last two bouts after dropping his debut in 2019. Most recently, Costa defeated Journey Newson via head kick last September. That earned the Taunton, Massachusetts native native his first Performance of the Night bonus.
Yanez (13-3), fighting out of Texas, has won both of his UFC bouts to date, after winning his way into the promotion on Dana White’s Contender Series in August 2020. In both of his wins thus far — against Victor Rodriguez and Gustavo Lopez — Yanez has earned Performance of the Night awards.
The bantamweight pair have had a fun rivalry on social media while campaigning for the fight, with each siding with one of their favorite brands to make this a Reese (Costa) vs. Dr. Pepper (Yanez) showdown.
Hey @yanezmma, Dr Pepper sucks and is a terrible favorite soda choice.
Am I doing this right? That’s about the extent of my shit talking skills 🙃 https://t.co/ui1Upi8QfC
