Tony Kelley begged for someone to come forward and fight him after his last fight. He finally got someone.
MMA Island was first to report that bantamweight Kelley will fight Trevin Jones on July 24 at a yet-to-be-announced UFC event. Cageside Press confirmed the booking Friday.
Jones (13-2) has made his presence known through two UFC fights already. In his UFC debut last year at UFC Fight Night: Munhoz vs. Edgar, he would survive a first-round beatdown and come back to finish highly touted fighter Timur Valiev. The fight would be overturned due to a positive marijuana test. In his second fight with the promotion at UFC 259, he knocked out Mario Bautista.
Kelley (7-2) is coming off a unanimous decision win over Ali AliQaisi at UFC Fight Night: Moraes vs. Sandhagen on ‘Fight Island.’ Before that, he made his UFC debut against Kai Kamaka in one of the best fights of 2020. Kelley would lose a unanimous decision but would be award Fight of the Night.
No location, venue, or broadcast plan has been announced for the promotion’s July 24 event.
The only other fights reported for the card thus far are a pair of women’s bouts, Aspen Ladd vs. Macy Chiasson and Miranda Maverick vs. Maycee Barber.
