Stamp Fairtex enters the ONE atomweight grand prix with a chance to avenge a loss in her most recent fight. That was her first loss in mixed martial arts, a rare setback for a fighter who has held kickboxing and Muay Thai gold in ONE Championship.
Thailand’s Fairtex (5-1) found herself submitted by Alyona Rassohyna back in January, succumbing to a guillotine choke. So while she’s “glad and honored” to be entering the women’s atomweight grand prix, she’s training especially hard for Rassohyna.
“Especially, I was thinking I would like to prepare for her arm-bar, because Alyona, everyone knows her strength is her arm-bar. So I’m trying to prepare for that one,” Fairtex said during a recent virtual media day for ONE Championship: Empower, the all-female card that will launch the grand prix this May. “And also I would like to improve everything from my last fight, especially my ground game, in this fight as well.”
“The only thing in my mind, I have to win this fight. Because last fight, I didn’t feel like I lost,” continued Fairtex. “So this time, I need to prove myself in this fight, and I’m only thinking of winning.”
As to how, “I prefer to knock her out, or a win by unanimous decision,” the dangerous striker said.
Coming off the first loss of her MMA career, Fairtex told Cageside Press that she “cannot underestimate my opponent at all.” In her last fight, she reiterated, Fairtex didn’t feel like I lost, “but by the end of the third round, in only ten seconds,” she did just that. The official end came with just one second left in the fight — which is not something she intends to let happen again.
