A pair of European middleweights will collide at a UFC event in June.
According to Al Zullino of BJPenn.com, Italy’s Alessio Di Chirico will fight Georgia’s Roman Dolidze on June 5 at a yet-to-be-announced UFC event. Both fighters would confirm the news on their social media.
Di Chirico (13-5) got back into the win column on the first UFC card of the year. The Italian fighter was fighting for his job when he fought Joaquin Buckley at UFC on ABC: Holloway vs. Katta. He knocked Buckley out in this first round with a head kick and received a Performance of the Night bonus for his efforts. Before his loss, Di Chirico was on a three-fight losing streak, the first losing streak of his career.
Georgia’s Dolidze (8-1) had his undefeated streak snapped earlier this month at UFC on ESPN: Brunson vs. Holland against Trevin Giles. Dolidze would move down to middleweight and lose a unanimous decision. Before this loss, the Georgian fighter won eight in a row, with two wins in the UFC. He knocked out Khadis Ibragimov in his UFC debut on ‘Fight Island’ and then defeated John Allan at UFC on ESPN: Hermansson vs. Vettori last December.
With the addition of Di Chirico vs. Dolidze, the UFC’s June 5, 2021 fight card currently looks like this:
- Maryna Moroz vs. Manon Fiorot
- Walt Harris vs. Marcin Tybura
- Youssef Zalal vs. Sean Woodson
- Ilir Latifi vs. Tanner Boser
- Alan Patrick vs. Mason Jones
- Montana De La Rosa vs. Ariane Lipski
- Dusko Todorovic vs. Maki Pitolo
- Alessio Di Chirico vs. Roman Dolidze
