ONE Championship’s Fists of Fury III aired Friday, and may have produced a new contender in the strawweight division.
The tape-delayed card was headlined by kickboxing action. That action saw champ Regian Eersel successfully defend his lightweight title agaisnt Mustapha Haida. But it was the strawweight division on the MMA side that saw arguably a more interesting development, as Japan’s young star Hiroba Minowa earned a split decision win against Alex “Little Rock” Silva. Given Silva’s status as a former champion in the division, Minowa now may be positioned as a challenger in the weight class. The 21-year old has now won six straight fights, with two of those victories coming under the ONE Championship banner.
