Ilir Latifi will have another go in the UFC’s heavyweight division, this time against Canada’s Tanner Boser.
MMA Empire was first to report news of the match-up, which is expected to take place on June 5.
Latifi (14-8, 1NC) moved to heavyweight for the first time in his UFC career in February 2020 when he took on Derrick Lewis in a losing effort at UFC 247. The Swedish fighter, who join the promotion in 2013 as part of the light heavyweight division, has not competed since. “The Sledgehammer” is in a precarious position at the moment, having lost his last three bouts. Those defeats came to Lewis, and at 205lbs, Volkan Oezdemir and Corey Anderson.
Against Boser (19-7-1), he goes up against a heavyweight with unusual speed for the weight class. “Bulldozer” is a Unified MMA heavyweight champ who also competed for ACA/ACB prior to joining the UFC in 2019. 3-2 in his run with the promotion thus far, Boser had a two-fight win streak snapped when he lost a unanimous decision to Andrei Arlovski last November.
The UFC’s June 5 event does not have an official location, venue, or broadcast plans announced. The card, expected to be a Fight Night, currently has the following bouts attached to it:
Maryna Moroz vs. Manon Fiorot
Walt Harris vs. Marcin Tybura
Youssef Zalal vs. Sean Woodson
Ilir Latifi vs. Tanner Boser
