Askar Askarov, like many Russian fighters, has a strong background in wrestling/ submission grappling. Askarov may yet to have any finishes in the UFC, but this is thanks to the high level of competition that he has faced so far in the form of Brandon Moreno, Tim Elliott and Alexandre Pantoja (all fighters known for their toughness and difficulty to finish).
Outside of the UFC however, and against very good competition, we can clearly see that Askarov is quite the submission threat on the ground. ‘Bullet’ even has a very difficult to execute twister submission on his record.
Askarov’s favorite technique seems to be the rear naked choke as he has three finishes via RNC submission thus far in his pro MMA career. One can tell that Askarov’s submission techniques are especially good due to just how many submissions he’s secured outside of the first round. Once his opponents are slick with blood or sweat, Askarov still has four submission finishes in the second round, plus two submissions in the third round. Askar also has a submission finish in the fifth and final round of a title fight.
