The UFC’s heavyweight division has been on showcase as of late. With back-to-back Fight Nights consisting of the heavy hitters in main events, the weight class has finally been able to show its growth in terms of the talent it has produced in recent years. Of course, with the heavyweights, anything can happen. The anticipation of a knockout is always there, and we know that the majority of the division has “lights out” power at any given second.

Then again, that’s not always the case. Things went the opposite direction in a clash of two titans atop the UFC Vegas 20 card, when Ciryl Gane and Jairzinho Rozenstruik looked to make their way up the rankings. Instead of a fast, punishing knockout, the pair showed oodles of respect for each other’s power through the first two rounds. As the fight wore on, Gane’s footwork and in-and-out movement made it hard for Jairzinho Rozenstruik to get anything going, letting rounds slip away in Ciryl Gane’s favour.

In the end, Ciryl Gane added Rozenstruik’s name to his undefeated streak with a unanimous decision and gained his fifth win inside the UFC Octagon. It may not have been the fight the fans wanted, but Gane proved how well-rounded he can be, and he no doubt has the division’s attention.
