A pair of UFC heavyweights will be looking to get back in the win column in May.
First reported by MMA Junkie, Ultimate Fighter season 28 alumni Maurice Greene will fight fellow Ultimate Fighter alumni Marcos Rogerio de Lima on May 8 at a yet-to-be-announced UFC event. Greene and “Pezao” both confirmed the bout on social media.
Greene (9-5) will be looking to avoid a two-fight losing streak, which would be the second of his UFC career were things to go that route. The Minnesota turned Albuquerque fighter went 1-3 in 2020. He kicked off the year fighting on the UFC 246 pay-per-view main card, losing to Aleksei Oleinik in the second round. Greene returned in the summer and welcomed Gian Villante to the heavyweight division. He won the fight via an arm-triangle choke submission from the bottom, something frankly not seen very often. In his most recent fight, he lost to Greg Hardy last Halloween via TKO.
Since moving to heavyweight, Brazil’s de Lima (17-7) has won two and lost two. He fought twice last year, defeating Ben Sosoli via TKO in February. “Pezao” then took the summer off. The Brazilian was supposed to return in September and welcome Alexander Romanov to the UFC but tested positive of COVID-19. The fight was rebooked for November at UFC on ESPN: Santos vs. Teixeira; de Lima was chocked unconscious via the first forearm choke in modern UFC history.
Needless to say, both fighters want and need to get a win.
The May 8 UFC Fight Night lineup now looks like this:
- Holly Holm vs. Julianna Pena
- Donald Cerrone vs. Diego Sanchez
- Zarrukh Adashev vs. Ryan Benoit
- Marcos Rogerio de Lima vs. Maurice Greene
