Nate Landwehr and Julian Erosa were both looking to build off recent successes inside the octagon when they collided at UFC Vegas 19 on Saturday.
The fight that unfolded turned out to be wild, entertaining, and controversial, for as long as it lasted.
Landwehr had earned his first win under the UFC banner against Darren Elkins last May, while Erosa submitted Sean Woodson the following month, also taking home his first W in the big show. Meaning someone was walking out of Vegas on Saturday with their second UFC win.
Erosa vs. Landwehr devolved into a brawl almost immediately. “Juicy J” landed a right early, which wobbled Landwehr. The pair traded wild strikes, with Erosa being flattened himself during the exchanges.
And just when it looked like Erosa might be in trouble, he began backing Landweher up. The finishing sequence came with a flying knee from Erosa, which landed flush. Landwehr went down, and the ref was right there waving things off — without Landwehr ever having gone out.
Clearly still attempting to defend, Landwehr immediately tore a strip off the referee. But barring any sort of appeal (unlikely, historically), the outcome will go down as a win for Julian Erosa.
