The UFC 258 preliminary card was topped by middleweight action, as undefeated jiu-jitsu ace Rodolfo Vieira looked to continue his 100% finish rate against former LFA champ Anthony Hernandez.
“Fluffy” was looking to get back in the win column Saturday after coming up short against Fighter of the Year Kevin Holland in 2020.
Just 15 seconds into the fight, Viera dumped Hernandez with a big takedown. He moved quickly to the back and then mount when Hernandez turned into him. After failing to lock in a couple of arm triangles, Vieira switched to an arm bar. Hernandez scrambled out and got back to the feet for a short time before winding up on his back again. He again worked back to his feet, but this time poured it on Vieira, knowing he needed to win on the feet. He landed loads of big shots and appeared to stun Vieira on more than one occasion. A labored Vieira looked to be nearly out of there and Hernandez even looked for a submission or two of his own. The round ended in an awkward scramble that saw Vieira in an inverted triangle.
The second round saw Vieira get a takedown early. He jumped to the back, but without the hooks he wound up falling over the top. Reset, Hernandez went right back to slugging and landing big. On a sprawl, Hernandez committed to an arm-in guillotine and forced the tap from the jiu jitsu world champion.
