Fresh off his first win as a UFC fighter, heavyweight Parker Porter has his next assignment set: Chase Sherman.
The hard-hitting pair are set to face off at the UFC event scheduled for April 17, 2021. No location or venue has been announced for the card.
Cageside Press confirmed the bout with a source close to the situation on Monday. MMA Fighting was first to report the news.
Porter (11-6) arrived in the UFC last year, finding himself finished by Chris Daukaus back in August. But roughly three months later, the Connecticut-based heavyweight, 35, went the distance with Josh Parisian to claim a unanimous decision win — his first inside the octagon.
Bout number three pits him against Chase Sherman, who recently embarked on his second stint as a UFC heavyweight. Sherman (15-6) fought for the UFC from 2016 to 2018, going 2-5 in that stretch. Despite becoming a popular figure online as the UFC’s uncrowned “GIF King” he wound up bounced after a three-fight skid. From there, Sherman moved to the world of bare-knuckle boxing, finding success under the BKFC banner before returning to the UFC in may, where he defeated newcomer Ike Villanueva.
At least for now. Following the bout, Sherman failed an in-competition drug test, and was hit with a nine-month suspension by USADA after testing positive for Anastrozole. While the win over Villanueva has yet to be overturned, a hearing for Sherman under the Florida State Boxing Commission is expected in March, the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation told Cageside Press on Monday.
