South African sensation and former KSW champ Dricus Du Plessis will return to the octagon this March. In what will be De Plessis’ sophomore outing under the UFC banner, the middleweight and former welterweight will face Trevin Giles.
MMA Junkie was first to report news of the booking, which was later confirmed by Du Plessis.
Du Plessis (15-2) held welterweight gold in Poland’s KSW, winning then losing the title in a pair of bouts with Roberto Soldic. Additionally, “Stillknocks” is a three-time EFC champion, winning their welterweight and middleweight titles — the latter twice.
In October of 2020, Du Plessis made his debut inside the UFC octagon, knocking out Markus Perez within a round.
Trevin Giles (13-2) had a solid 2020, if you discount a health scare. Giles won both his fights last year, against James Krause and Bevon Lewis. He also took home a Fight of the Night bonus for the Krause affair. However, in between those fights, he suffered a scary fainting spell during which his heart stopped — although he successfully returned later in the year to defeat Lewis.
The UFC’s March 20 event does not have a location, venue, or official title/designation announced. Additional fights reported for the card include Kevin Holland vs. Derek Brunson, and Kay Hansen vs. Cheyanne Buys.
