Young strawweight Kay Hansen, all of 21-years old, has her third UFC bout set. Come March 20, she’ll be taking on recent Dana White’s Contender Series winner Cheyanne Buys.
The bout was first reported on Instagram by I Like Who I’m Becoming MMA. Hansen, who had previously announced that she had signed a bout agreement, later confirmed the pairing, as did Buys.
To date, Invicta FC veteran Hansen (7-4) is 1-1 inside the octagon. She made her debut in 2020 against fellow Invicta alum (and former atomweight champion) Jinh Yu Frey, with Hansen winning the bout via arm-bar. In her sophomore outing, Hansen stumbled, dropping a unanimous decision to Cory McKenna.
She’ll look to bounce back versus Buys (5-1), who will be making her octagon debut in the bout. Buys (whose husband JP Buys also won a UFC deal this year) fought her way into the promotion on the Contender Series by defeating Hilarie Rose. She’ll enter the match-up with Hansen off four straight wins.
The UFC’s March 20 date is expected to be a Fight Night event. No official venue, location, or event name has been announced for the card. The following fights have been reported for the date thus far:
Max Griffin vs. Song Kenan
Adrian Yanez vs. Gustavo Lopez
Derek Brunson vs. Kevin Holland
Kay Hansen vs. Cheyanne Buys
