If there was a theme to 2020 for mixed martial arts, it boiled down to one word. No, not coronavirus, or COVID-19, but change. And in order to succeed in the face of change, adaptability. That was the key to success for fighters in 2020, and with the final UFC card of the year, UFC Vegas 17, adaptability was once more required.
Any number of fights had been cancelled. Rick Glenn had dropped off the card just two days ahead of weigh-ins. With the loss of the main event bout between Leon Edwards and Khamzat Chimaev, Stephen Thompson and Geoff Neal had been bumped up, and changed to a five-round affair.
Gillian Robertson, a surging flyweight prospect, had been expected to face KGB Lee at UFC 256 a week earlier. She was instead paired up with Taila Santos, whose own fight earlier in the month, against Montana De La Rosa, had fallen through.
Change. Adapt. And make weight. Weigh-ins for UFC Vegas 17 were set to get underway at 12PM ET on Friday. The event was scheduled for Saturday, December 19 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada. Results from Friday’s weigh-in can be found below.
There were no misses at the scales on Friday. Even Dalcha Lungiambula made weight, though his fight with Karl Roberson is off the card after Roberson’s positive COVID-19 test.
