Israel Adesanya: Boxing Commentator

UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya is joining the commentary team for the Mike Tyson-Roy Jones Jr. PPV card coming up this weekend. Huh.

“We’re not going to see an exhibition, this will be a fight between two war dogs gunning for each other,” Adesanya said. “I know fighting, I know boxing, and I’ve studied Tyson and Roy Jones. I know their strengths. I used to watch their highlights before my kickboxing fights just to fire myself up because I was such a fan. I can’t wait to be on this call with ‘Sugar’ Ray Leonard and shoot the shit about fighting and share some of my insights, as well.” – via MMA Mania

Much like Hall-TKZ, this is an unexpected match that actually makes some sense. Adesanya is no stranger to a microphone, and seeing how he does in a different environment than we’re use to seeing him in will be interesting. It adds a unique and surprising spin to the broadcast that should be some level of entertaining.

I mean, you’re paying to watch Mike Tyson box in 2020. You get what you get. And Izzy on commentary feels about right.
