UFC 255 was a night that was all about the flyweights.
For a division whose future was once very much in question, seeing the 125lb division take the spotlight, on a Pay-per-View card, was an extremely positive sign. Champ Deiveson Figueiredo was making his first title defense; more importantly, he had a number of potential suitors lined up for future title fights, including the winner of Brandon Moreno vs. Brandon Royval earlier on the UFC 255 card.
Not to mention former bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandt, who had originally been lined up for a flyweight title shot before a bicep tear scuttled those plans.
Not to be outdone, the ladies at 125lbs were also in action, with Valentina Shevchenko anchoring the co-main event against Jennifer Maia. With sister Antonina facing “Violence Queen” Ariane Lipskie, and Cynthia Calvillo facing Katlyn Chookagian earlier in the night, UFC 255 proved one thing if nothing else: the flyweight division on both sides of the sport was alive and well.
Following the PPV card, tune in for the UFC 255: Figueiredo vs. Perez post-fight press conference. A live stream of the affair can be viewed above. The press conference is scheduled to kick off at 1:15AM ET, time subject to change.
