First DWCS Fight
Tucker Lutz had his first fight on DWCS in the 5th week of the 2020 season but Dana White was so impressed with his performance that he invited to fight again on the show later in the year.
In Tucker’s fight with Gibson it was apparent that even though he has a good chin, he gets hit often while standing. Lutz displayed great cardio and knew when to take power off of his shots in order to land volume, peppering his opponent.
Lutz has good top control and has the ability to maintain and advance his position on the ground while simultaneously inflicting damage upon his opponent.
Tucker Lutz has very fast hands and his combinations are fluid and he always throws them behind his jab.
Contender Series Opponent
Tucker’s first opponent on the Contender Series was 9-4, Chase Gibson. Chase took the fight on just a few days’ notice. Chase wasn’t offered a UFC contract after his unanimous decision loss to Lutz. However, Gibson did get a fight with the LFA where he was able to move back down to the featherweight division and take on the undefeated, 8-0, Thai Clark. Gibson won the fight by D’Arce Choke in the second round in the bout that took place about two months after his fight on the Contender Series. Gibson also missed weight for this fight coming in at 146.4lbs.
The Road Back
Because Tucker Lutz was one of the fighters invited back from DWCS in 2020, he has just been resting up and training since his fight three and a half months ago.
Gameplan/ New Opponent
For his second chance on the COntender Series, Tucker Lutz will be fighting another fighter that has already fought on DWCS during the 2020 season in Sherrard Blackledge.
Lutz has very good shot selection and should avoid making the fight dirty with his opponent Blackledge who really seems to shine in clinch fighting. Tucker should also probably avoid fighting on the outside against a fighter as long and talented as Blackledge. Lutz needs to bring the fight to punching range and let his hands go but be cautious of the takedown that is guaranteed to come once he starts landing. In the few wrestling exchanges we saw from Lutz, he has demonstrated good takedown defense and an ability to pull off reversals on the ground.
