This week’s UFC Vegas 14 card has taken a bit of a beating, including losing one half of its main event (Islam Makhachev) a week out from the fight. However, reinforcements are on the way. On Monday, promotion officials revealed that Brendan Allen and Sean Strickland would meet at the event, which takes place Saturday, November 14.
Former LFA champ Allen took to social media to confirm the news.
Allen (15-3) was supposed to fight this past weekend against Ian Heinisch. But as luck would have it, Heinisch once again withdrew from their fight, for the second time this year. This time around, the culprit was a positive COVID-19 test. With the test result coming the day off, no replacement opponent could be found for Allen.
Sean Strickland (21-3) fought on Halloween, defeating Jack Marshman by decision in Strickland’s first fight in two years. It will be just 14 days between fights for Strikland when he takes on Allen, in a middleweight bout that is expected to feature as part of the UFC Vegas 14 main card.
Saturday’s main event, meanwhile, remains up in the air after Makhachev was forced out of his fight with Rafael dos Anjos due to a staph infection. No replacement fighter for Makhachev has been announced as of yet, with recent free agent signee Michael Chandler saying he had other plans.
