At long last, the light heavyweight bout between Thiago Santos and Glover Teixeira is set to go down. Fingers, quite frankly, crossed.
The pair of top 205lb’ers have been circling each other for months. Santos was last seen pushing Jon Jones to his limit at UFC 239. Teixeira, now 41, remains a top contender in the division with four straight wins under his belt.
The duo were expected to face off twice previously in 2020. With each man suffering their own, separate bouts with COVID-19, the fight was pushed back again and again. Yet here we are. At what would be a title eliminator, except that middleweight champion Israel Adesanya appears to have the UFC’s blessing to stray north for an attempt at a second title.
Still, the winner of Santos vs. Teixeira at UFC Vegas 13 is very much the man most deserving of the next shot at 205lb gold in the UFC. But before it’s all official, the full card will need to weigh in. Weigh-ins will kick off at 12PM ET on Friday — check below for updates.
