What should have been a welterweight fight on the UFC Vegas 12 preliminary card on Saturday wound up being a catchweight affair. Cole Williams blew weight by four and a half pounds for the fight, which took place at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. That resulted in opponent Jason Witt picking up some extra cash in the form of Williams’ fine money — and perhaps added some motivation.
Witt immediately grabbed a leg, looking for a takedown. When he couldn’t land that, he hoisted Cole Williams up and slammed him down. Witt then attempted to transition to the back, getting one hook in. With the cage wall in the way, it was tight. Eventually, Williams managed to at last force Witt to settle for working from guard. Witt managed to spend the bulk of the round there, however, slipping in some nasty elbows, one of which opened up a nasty cut on Williams. His face was a mask of blood, but luckily between rounds, his corner was able to clean him up, and the doctor allowed the action to continue.

Witt landed a big slam again early in the second. The extra weight Williams carried hardly seemed to matter, as Witt treated him like a sack of potatoes. Williams was in an even worse spot on his back in the second. He was still drenched in blood, but and this, Witt was able to get a choke on. Covered in his opponent’s blood, Jason Witt forced the tap, picking up a submission win.

The bucket or so worth of blood spilled on the canvas floor was fitting for a Halloween card. And Jason Witt was the mastermind behind that Halloween massacre.
Official Result: Jason Witt def. Cole Williams by submission (arm-triangle choke), Round 2, 2:09
