With Aaron Phillips pulling out of the fight, Adrian Yanez has a new opponent for UFC Vegas 12 on October 31.
Cageside Press has confirmed with sources close to the situation that Yanez will now fight Victor Rodriguez on the Halloween card. The fight marks the octagon debut for Yanez, who won his way into the UFC via Dana White’s Contender Series earlier this year.
The reason for Phillips’ withdrawal appears to be an undisclosed injury. MMA DNA was first to report his exit from the bout.
Yanez (11-3) will enter the Fight Night event on a four fight win streak dating back to January of last year. During that time the Texas-based fighter has competed for Fury FC and LFA, prior to landing a spot on the Contender Series in August. There, the 26-year old defeated Brady Huang by first-round knockout. Punching his ticket to the UFC in the process.
Eight of Yanez’s professional victories have come via stoppage.
Stepping in on short notice, Rodriguez (7-2) also rides a four fight win streak. Based out of Alaska, he’s recently competed for Alaska FC, and will also be making his promotional debut at UFC Vegas 12.
A finisher himself, “Vicious” boasts a 100% stoppage rate across his seven wins.
UFC Vegas 12, a.k.a. UFC Fight Night 181, takes place on October 31 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada. Anderson Silva faces Uriah Hall in the middleweight main event, it what may very well be the final fight in the illustrious career of “The Spider.”
