Flyweight veteran and “Happy Warrior” Roxanne Modafferi will look to make it two wins in a row when she returns to action early next year.
As first reported by My MMA News, Modafferi (25-17) will face Brazil’s Viviane Araujo (9-2) at a UFC event on January 30, 2021.
Modafferi has been trading wins and losses since her return to the UFC in 2017, going 4-4 in that stretch. She’s picked up key wins over standouts like Antonina Shevchenko, Maycee Barber, and most recently, Andrea “KGB” Lee.
The 38-year old turned pro back in 2003, fighting in Japan and around the world before a short-lived stint in the UFC as part of The Ultimate Fighter 18. It wasn’t until the promotion finally introduced her natural weight class of 125lbs, however, that Modafferi really found a home in the octagon.
Araujo is 3-1 inside the octagon to date, with that lone loss coming to Jessica Eye last year. It’s important to note that Eye missed weight by a considerable margin for the bout. Regardless, Brazil’s “Vivi” bounced back with a victory over Montana De La Rosa last month.
The UFC’s January 30 event does not yet have a name or location announced. The promotion is currently holding shows on “Fight Island” (Yas Island) in Abu Dhabi, but is expected to return home for a stint in Las Vegas in November and December.
