Darrick Minner pulled off quite the upset at UFC Vegas 11. Paired up with Contender Series winner TJ Laramie, Minner entered the night the clear underdog. He exited with an impressive submission win.
And he was not shy about calling out those who doubted him.
“I felt a little bit disrespected, because I’m a +260? You’re out your ever-loving mind. I hope a lot of people cashed on that first round submission,” Minner (25-11) exclaimed post-fight on Saturday. “I know I seen on Twitter, everyone was betting on that. And I hope all you doubters lost your ass.”
Minner, however, understands that it’s just how the sport goes sometimes. “I just think it’s funny. And that’s just the way the game is. You always doubt the vet, you always doubt these guys who are coming in,” he observed. “You always think these newcomers who are 12-3, 8-1, [are] better.” But experience has to count for something, and Minner noted that “I have 35 professional fights. The reason I’ve been submitted is that I never had a coach to slow my game down. I never had a guy like James Krause sitting in my corner with the IQ that I have. Now it’s just crazy.”
If that was Minner’s game slowed down — and he went on to say that it was — than perhaps we don’t get the definition. He submitted Laramie in under a minute, with a deep guillotine choke, after all.
As to when he might get back in the octagon, Minner didn’t have a timeline. Or any names to call out. “Whenever you need me, call me. I’m that guy,” he stated.
