UFC Vegas 10 didn’t get the main event it expected — but perhaps that worked out for the best in the end. Because fans got a main event they deserved, in Michelle Waterson vs. Angela Hill.
A five round affair between two determined strawweights went the distance, in what proved to be an action-packed, extremely close fight. There was an argument to be made, when the dust settled, that a draw was in order. That didn’t happen, with Michelle Waterson, better known as The Karate Hottie, picking up a much-needed win by split decision.
Waterson and Hill, not surprisingly, were awarded Fight of the Night for their main event clash at the UFC Apex.
One of two Performance of the Night awards, meanwhile, went to Ottman Azaitar. The German lightweight found a vulnerability in the Deathstar, as he put Khama Worthy away early in the first round via TKO. It was Azaitar’s second win in as many fights in the octagon. He’ll now head to Fight Island, as brother Abu fights there next month.
The other Performance of the Night bonus went to newcomer Kevin Croom. Croom rocked Roosevelt Roberts early in their preliminary card bout, then latched on to his opponent’s neck with a modified guillotine choke.
An extra $50,000 goes to each of Saturday’s bonus winners at UFC Vegas 10.
