Another big middleweight match-up is set for the end of the year, as Darren Till is expected to take on Jack Hermansson in December.
Only weeks after their most recent respective bouts, both Darren Till and Jack Hermansson are both looking forward to their return.
Jack Hermannson (21-5) last fought on the second Fight Island card, picking up a win over former interim title challenger Kelvin Gastelum. Darren Till (18-3-1) would fight the following weekend losing a close decision to former champion Robert Whittaker. Now a main-event bout between Hermansson and Till is being lined up for December 5, in a fight that is sure to have title implications. ESPN’s Brett Okamoto first reported the news.
Till will be looking to rebound after his loss to not only Whittaker but he after losing three of his last four fights. Till was once one of the UFC’s fastest rising stars, but since earning a title shot in 2018 at welterweight, he’s lost to the likes of Tyron Woodley, Jorge Masvidal, and the aforementioned Whittaker. The loss to Masvidal forced Till to move up to middleweight where he has gone 1-1 since.
Hermansson on the other hand has been on a tear since a rocky start to his UFC career. Hermansson kicked off his UFC stint with two losses in his first five bouts, both coming via the way of finish at the hands of Cezar Ferreira and Thiago Santos. However, following his loss to Santos, he would go on an impressive run, picking up wins over the likes of David Branch, Jacare Souza, and Kelvin Gastelum. His sole defeat since the loss to Santos was a TKO loss to top contender Jared Cannonier.
The Hermansson-Till announcement comes during a slew of recent middleweight bout bookings from the UFC. Fights such as Anderson Silva vs. Uriah Hall, and Robert Whittaker vs. Jared Cannonier have all been set near the end of the year. The most important middleweight fight however goes down at UFC 253 in a month, as Israel Adesanya will look to defend his middleweight strap against undefeated Brazilian Paulo Costa.
