135lb standouts Holly Holm and Irene Aldana have a fight again.
During the UFC 252 broadcast on Saturday night, the promotion announced that Holm vs. Aldana, which was originally expected to headline UFC Fight Night 173, would now take place on October 3. While no location was announced for the bout, the bantamweight pairing was confirmed as the card’s main event.
The original August 1 date that the pair had been set for fell through when Aldana tested positive for the coronavirus.
“The Preacher’s Daughter” Holm (13-5) will be looking to get back on track after hitting a rough patch in recent years. The former 135lb champ lost three straight starting with the loss of her title to Miesha Tate at UFC 196 in 2016. After that, she began trading wins and losses, and is coming off a victory over Raquel Pennington at UFC 246.
While Holm has struggled, it’s worth noting that her most recent losses came to Amanda Nunes and Cris Cyborg, two of the greatest female fighters of all time.
Aldana (12-5) has won five or her last six fights inside the octagon, including two straight against Vanessa Melo and Ketlen Vieira. Two of those five fights ended in post-fight bonuses for the budding Mexican star.
