The UFC had the biggest heavyweight title fight in years atop their August PPV offering. UFC 252 was headlined by Stipe Miocic and Daniel Cormier, looking to cement their legacies and prove once and for all who the better fighter was.
Cormier had won the pair’s first meeting. Miocic had won the second. Both men had finished the other. Both represented the best of an era. What it came down to, in the end, was a battle for bragging rights, as arguably the greatest UFC heavyweight of all time.
On Cormier’s side, a Strikeforce Grand Prix win, victories over the likes of Bigfoot, Barnett, Nelson, Mir, Lewis, and of course Miocic. Not to mention being a double champ. On Stipe’s, the Cormier win, victories over Arlovski, Dos Santos, Werdum, Ngannou, and a host of others. Plus owning the UFC’s heavyweight title defense record.
The fact that Daniel Cormier had been firm in the build-up to UFC 252 that it was in fact his final fight made the bout all the more monumental. Could he ride off into the sunset off a massive title fight win?
